Contributions to Jen's campaign

Although I planned on self-funding my campaign, I have been fortunate to receive contributions from several community members even though I did not do any fundraising or solicit contributions.

Most of these contributions were received through my website, and I haven’t personally met all of the contributors. I’m grateful that they are confident my experience and education will be a benefit to council and the Canmore community. I want to respect their privacy as I don't have permission to publish their names on my website. Although I have voluntarily opened myself up to public scrutiny, they have not. There is no requirement to post donor names before the election, so if I post their names on my website, without their consent, they are opened up to public scrutiny (and googling from the general public) without their permission - which I don't think is fair.

Some candidates feel it is important to disclose their list of contributors so the community knows who is influencing their campaign. This also implies that those candidates will make decisions on council that are impacted by the people who have financially backed them.

My decisions on council will never be influenced by the community members who financially contributed to my campaign.

I encourage voters to read about each candidate, educate themselves about each candidate platform, and vote for the candidate(s) who will bring our community together and make decisions that are motivated by our entire Canmore community – not by who gave them a financial contribution to their election campaign.

(Of course all campaign financials will be disclosed and
publicly available per the  Local Authorities Election Act.)
